Wail A. Al Jaafari: from plant engineering to technical services leadership

Wail A. Al Jaafari was appointed Aramco’s Executive Vice President of Technical Services in October 2023. He joined the company after earning a mechanical engineering degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in 1993.

The work behind the profile

His early work included engineering, maintenance, planning and scheduling at the Uthmaniyah Gas Plant. Later assignments covered commissioning, corporate planning, portfolio analysis and gas operations. He also undertook the MIT Sloan Fellows Program and executive development courses.

The career demonstrates the connection between frontline technical work and decisions made at enterprise level. Maintenance planning, commissioning and operating reliability provide experience that can inform investment and service priorities. For aspiring technical leaders, these assignments show the value of building both operational judgment and a wider business perspective.
