Saudi startup SDM finished as runner-up in the London Business School MENA Startup Competition 2026, winning $15,000, Arab News reported on 15 October.

Founded and chaired by ophthalmologist Selwa Al-Hazzaa, with Naif Al-Obaidallah as co-founder and CEO, the company is developing AI-supported approaches to earlier disease detection. Its SAARIA technology focuses on eye screening and the difficulty of reaching patients outside specialist centres.

Al-Hazzaa’s contribution connects clinical experience with the work of building a healthcare business. SDM intends to use the prize to support expansion and further development.

The recognition is a startup competition result. It should not be interpreted as an independent clinical validation or as a guarantee of diagnostic performance. This feature summarises the published report; it is not an interview conducted by Talent Diamond.
