THE STORY

Talent Diamond Editorial

The Saudi technology leader’s career connects developer communities, public-sector innovation and international cooperation, with a recent UN panel appointment adding a new area of responsibility.

In a LinkedIn reflection published on 30 August 2026, Deemah AlYahya argued for innovation that responds to people’s needs and considers environmental, health and social effects alongside technical potential. Her discussion of Saudi Arabia’s LEAP technology event placed talent and international exchange at the centre of that perspective.

Those published views offer a useful entry point into a career that began with software development and expanded into the institutions shaping how technology is used.

Building beyond the code

AlYahya serves as Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, an intergovernmental body established in 2020. Its official biography describes a professional journey spanning developer communities, Saudi public-sector innovation and the private technology industry.

Her experience includes the National Digital Transformation Unit and the MiSK Foundation’s innovation work. At Microsoft, she served as Chief Innovation Evangelist, with responsibilities that included developing the ecosystem for software developers and helping women, young people and independent software vendors access technology, skills and tools.

The biography also records a degree in Computer Science and Information Systems from King Saud University. Together, these experiences show the range of work surrounding a technology career: building software, supporting other practitioners and helping institutions develop their capabilities.

A wider international remit

On 30 September 2026, DCO announced her appointment by the UN Secretary-General to the High-Level Panel on Freedom of Transit for Landlocked Developing Countries.

The panel will examine barriers affecting 32 landlocked developing countries and develop recommendations on transit systems and access to global markets. DCO identifies digital and customs instruments as part of the contribution her experience can bring. Recommendations are expected during the UN General Assembly’s 82nd session; they are prospective, rather than completed outcomes.

For women considering careers in technology, AlYahya’s documented path illustrates how a technical foundation can develop into work across business, government and international cooperation.
