Fahd Al Qureshah: investigating why severe viral infections affect some people

Fahd Al Qureshah is an Ibn Rushd Assistant Professor of Bioscience at KAUST. His laboratory studies the relationship between inherited immune differences and life-threatening viral disease, bringing together human genetics, immunology and molecular biology.

The work behind the profile

The research examines how individual genetic defects can interfere with antiviral responses and affect susceptibility to infection. The laboratory also explores diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. These are research aims, rather than a claim that a particular treatment is already available.

His education includes molecular and cell biology, postgraduate immunology training at Harvard and the University of Washington, and postdoctoral work at Rockefeller University. The professional story is the development of specialist knowledge across disciplines to investigate an important and difficult biological question.
